Goal-Setting Tips for Mystery Shoppers for the New Year

The New Year is a time to reflect back on the past and to think about the future. Many people take the opportunity that the New Year provides to think about ways that they can improve upon their past experiences to enjoy a better tomorrow. As a mystery shopper, you may be taking time today to set goals for yourself in the coming year. There are a number of common goals that mystery shoppers like you will set this time of year, and by following a few key tips, you can make the most of the goals you establish for yourself.

Set Realistic Goals

The first step you should take is to set realistic goals for yourself. You do want to set goals that are challenging for you to meet, as these goals can inspire you to push yourself throughout the year. However, if the goals are too lofty, you may ultimately set yourself up to experience a dismal failure. It is best to define what your goals are thoroughly. For example, rather than simply state that you want to earn more money in 2013, you should set a firm income goal. Again, however, ensure that this goal is realistic yet challenging.

Develop a Plan

Without having blind, dumb luck working on your side, the only way that you will achieve your mystery shopping goals for the New Year is to develop a plan of action. For example, if you have set the goal of earning $5,000 more from your job this year, define how you plan to do this. This particular goal essentially means that you will need to earn about $96 in additional income from mystery shopping each week. This is an attainable goal for most mystery shoppers, but it will take effort. This particular goal may require you to complete three to six extra assignments per week, if not more. Research the options available for earning more money on your assignments, and develop a plan that will enable you to work steadily toward your goal.

Track Your Progress

Many New Year’s resolutions unfortunately are quickly forgotten after the first few weeks of the year have passed. If you are serious about meeting your goal, however, write your goal down, and place this piece of paper in a prominent area that you will see every day. In addition, make an effort to track your progress toward reaching this goal on a weekly or monthly basis.

Mystery shopping goals for the New Year may include everything from working on more assignments or working on fewer assignments while earning the same amount of money to finding new providers to work with and more. You may have one large goal that you want to accomplish or several different mystery shopping goals. Take time to define what your goals are today. Then, develop a plan of action and regularly monitor your progress toward meeting that goal. With your effort today toward defining and planning for your goals as well as additional effort to track your progress, you may indeed enjoy a better year of mystery shopping in 2013!
