Mystery shoppers have a wide variety of mystery shopping assignments to choose from. Most mystery shoppers choose to work with several different providers, and some even work with a dozen or more providers. Each provider will offer numerous assignments to choose from, but many do offer several restaurant assignments on any given day. If you have special dietary restrictions, you may already be aware of which restaurants are “safe” for you to eat at and which are not. Open to New Experiences
If you have never tried a restaurant assignment, you may be in for a whole new experience. These assignments are similar to other types of assignments such as retail clothing stores and grocery stores in that you have to interact with staff, check the bathrooms for cleanliness and more. However, these assignments often pertain quite a bit to the quality of the food and the timeliness within which it was served. Many of these assignments require you to have a stop watch, and you will have to sample the food you order in most cases. In some cases, you may be asked to order several meals at one time. These assignments are often fairly unique, so you should have an adventurous spirit to try them out.
Table for One?
Some restaurant assignments require you to shop, or otherwise dine, alone. Others may require you to bring at least one other companion along with you. These requirements should be strictly followed. Before you sign up for an assignment, consider your willingness to comfortably dine alone if required. Otherwise, consider which friend or family member you may be able to entice to bring to work with you to complete the assignment. These assignments may need to be completed on a certain date and within a certain time frame, so your friend or family member will need to be trustworthy and dependable. He or she should understand that you must dine at a certain time in order to complete the assignment.

I have done several resturant assignments. Most of them are just reimbursement type shops. They will pay for your meal for you and a guest up to a certain limit including the tip. There are a few that will pay you a small shopper fee of $5.00 for doing the shop and report.
Most of the shops give you the option of doing the shop alone but several require you to do with a guest. I like to do them on my own since I do not have to be tied into other people schedules. I do have one friend that is reliabe and dependable when I need to do a shop with another person. But I need a range of dates for her to choose from based on her availability. She can’t always go when I want to do the shop.
I always select places that I like to eat at or do not get to very often. I tend to stick with casual restaurant shops because of the selections and generous reimbursement. I tend to stay away from fast food shops because of their high calories and fatty food. I wil do a few sub shops but not MCDonald’d or Burger King. I used to but not anymore.
For the last three years I have been doing restaurant and some fast food shops. I have enjoyed the restaurants more, and look forward to schedueling them. By the time two of us eat at a restaurant (required by the shops I do), the bill us from seven to fifteen dollars more than the reimbursement. I think of this as positive, because we got to eat at a great restaurant for $15 or less.
This month I have done both ice cream and fast food shops (dine-in and drive-thru). I receive a shopper fee + reimbursement for the required purchase. These shops are a special treat for my son, since he gets the ice cream/fast food. These shops have no “shop alone” restriction but make sure you get a separate receipt for your shop purchase. Last year, I didn’t do any ice-cream shops and the fast food went to a homeless person I encounter regularly.
I have not se4em much on the anount of tip allowed for these resturant tips. I now that 20% s now the norm, which makes the compensation too low to make it worthwhile. I ave not done any in my area because of this, albeit fast food or regular.
